  Dr. Douglas Hicks
Associate Professor of Leadership Studies and Religion
Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond
 
 

As associate professor of leadership studies and religion and executive director of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement at the University of Richmond, Dr. Hicks combines his academic pursuits with interests in civil society, service learning and applied ethics. 

Hicks teaches courses in leadership in international contexts, justice and civil society, social movements and leadership and religious values. An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, he brings his background in religion and economics to the study of leadership. In 2003 he served as a visiting assistant professor of religion and society at the Harvard Divinity School.

His research focuses on religion in public life and the ethical dimensions of economic issues. He has written two books, Inequality and Christian Ethics (2000) and Religion and the Workplace (2003), both from Cambridge University Press.

Hicks holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College, a master’s degree in divinity from Duke University, and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in religion and economics from Harvard University.
