As the George C.S. Benson professor of
public affairs and a professor of chemistry at Claremont McKenna
College, Dr. Fucaloro applies his knowledge of science to address
how citizens and policymakers can think critically about and make
rational judgments on public policy questions.
Fucaloro has written about the integration of science and public policy. He assisted in writing an analysis of the NEXRAD (Next Generation Radar) facility in Southern California. He served on the scientific review panel for California’s Air Resources Board. Since 1980, he’s been a scientific advisor to U.S. Rep. David Dreier. Dubbed a “cyber-champion” and one of Congress’ “digital dozen” because of his commitment to the high-tech industry, Dreier is a lead advocate on the Hill for the Jet Propulsion Lab, which has overseen the Mars Rover landings, the Spitzer Telescope and other significant scientific initiatives. Research interests include molecular spectroscopy, solution thermodynamics, electron impact studies and environmental and arms policies. Fucaloro earned his doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Vitae Web site |
