Dr. Hoyt brings a psychological perspective to the study and teaching of leadership as assistant professor in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond. As a social psychologist, Hoyt integrates her knowledge of social behavior and research methodology in the social sciences with an examination of leadership studies and group dynamics. She is exploring non-traditional leadership in the face of negative stereotypes and discrimination by focusing on such important variables as leadership efficacy, identification with the leadership role, self-esteem and group performance. Hoyt’s research interests include examining the effects of stereotypes and discrimination on women and minority leaders; the role of confidence in shaping group leadership; transformational and transactional leadership; and new methodological tools for social scientists. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College and earned a doctorate in social psychology from the University of California.
